PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To binarize a multilevel image with a high quality. SOLUTION: A digital camera 100 is provided with a CCD 101 which inputs the luminance value of each of pixels constituting a multi-valued image, an average luminance value calculator 120 which calculates a local average luminance value including a pixel to be binarized on the basis of the luminance value inputted from the CCD 101, a binarization threshold setting circuit 122 which sets a binarization threshold to a value lower than the local average luminance value in accordance with the local average luminance value calculated by the average luminance value calculator 120, and a binarizing device 123 which binarizes the pixel to be binarized by the binarization threshold set by the binarization threshold setting circuit 122. |
