PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating an apparatus equipped with a feed water pump, which is able to take measures for abnormalities of the feed water pump. SOLUTION: When abnormality is detected in the feed water pump 5, the load of the pump 5 is controlled. Such control of the load on the pump 5 is performed either in a direct way by controlling the load on the pump 5 or an indirect way by controlling the load on the apparatus 1, or both.
