PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing device and method capable of transmitting valid data to a host computer even when any medium is not mounted in a disk recording/reproducing device. SOLUTION: This recording/reproducing device 2 for reading data from a media 3, or for writing data in the media 3 based on an instruction from a host computer 1 is provided with a memory 5 for preliminarily storing data to be transmitted to the host computer 1 and a microcomputer control part 4 for transmitting the data stored in the memory 5 to the host computer 1 when any media 3 is not mounted according to the instruction.
