PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can print while switching a direct transfer system and an indirect transfer system and can surely execute a printing process by both systems without generating troubles to one transfer system when the other transfer system is selected. SOLUTION: An imaging part 9 has a thermal head 20 which can move back and forth, and a platen roller 21 is arranged opposite to the thermal head 20 (A). At an imaging time to a card, thermal transfer is carried out with a thermal transfer sheet, the card and an intermediate transfer sheet interposed between the thermal head 20 and the platen roller 21 (B). At an imaging time to the intermediate transfer sheet, thermal transfer is carried out with the thermal transfer sheet and the intermediate transfer sheet interposed (C). At the imaging time to the card, the thermal transfer sheet, the card and the intermediate transfer sheet are transferred synchronously, thereby eliminating the trouble of a friction loss to the intermediate transfer sheet. |
