PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle-mounted information retrieving device which can reduce the load on operation and retrieve wanted information from real-time images easily and accurately. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with an image acquiring device 1 acquiring images including character information which appears inside or outside a vehicle, a character segmenting device 6 which segments the character information from the images acquired by the image acquiring device 1, a character recognizing device 7 which recognizes character texts from the segmented character information and an information device 9 which retrieves information relating to the characters by using the character texts recognized by the character recognizing device 7.
