PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compose a fiber polarimeter that has improved quality characteristics, is simple technically, and is inexpensive. SOLUTION: The polarimeter has at least one fiber Bragg diffraction gratings 4 and 5 that are inscribed to the axis of a fiber 1 at a specific angle, and detectors 7 and 8 that are provided corresponding to the fiber Bragg diffraction gratings 4 and 5. Additionally, a wavelength plate 6 is provided between the fiber Bragg diffraction gratings. At each of the fiber Bragg diffraction gratings, at least two portions of light are combined from the fiber 1 according to the polarization of guided light. Light that is reflected by the fiber Bragg diffraction gratings is separated and radiated spatially, and the spatially separated beam reaches the maximum intensity in a different polarization state.
