PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable thermal head which can form good prints by stabilizing a transfer state of a thermal recording medium. SOLUTION: In the thermal head, many heating resistors 3 are arranged over an upper face of a substrate 1, and at the same time, a plurality of driver ICs 6 for controlling heating of the heating resistors 3 are mounted along the arrangement of the heating resistors 3. Many heating resistors 3 are coated with a protecting film 5 formed of an inorganic material, and the plurality of driver ICs 6 are coated with a sealant 7 essentially consisting of an epoxy resin. Prints are formed by selectively letting the heating resistors 3 joule heat while the thermal recording medium is transferred over the heating resistors 3. An overcoat layer 8 formed of a fluororesin is applied to a surface of the sealant 7, to whose surface the thermal recording medium is slid in contact at the upstream side of a transfer direction with respect to the heating resistors 3.
