PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for positioning a selected recording channel on a recording head with respect to an optical servo system, and an alignment tape. SOLUTION: This method includes the step of positioning an optical servo system in a first position with respect to a selected recording channel, the step of processing the alignment tape in order to decide an offset in a horizontal direction between the optical servo system and the selected recording channel, and the step of positioning the optical servo system in a second position with respect to the recording channel by using the offset of the horizontal direction. The alignment tape includes a thin and long web made of a flexible plastic substrate material having two edges and regulating front and back main surfaces, a magnetic storage medium formed on the front main surface, an inactive medium formed on the back main surface, and the track of alignment void indicating the actual horizontal deviation of the selected recording channel from the optical servo system.
