PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recorder in which print dots can be protected surely against blur or collapse due to heat stored in a heating element through a simplified processing at each environmental temperature. SOLUTION: A CPU 21 acquires an environmental temperature at the time of starting operation (S1), and acquires a 'reference value' and a 'subtraction number of dots' corresponding to the environmental temperature from a cooling parameter table 3 (S2). Subsequently, a timer 21A is started (S3) and the number of print dots is added to a total number of print dot counter 27D every time when a line is printed (S5, S6). On the other hand, the 'subtraction number of dots' is subtracted from the count of the total number of print dot counter 27D every time when a specified time elapses after starting operation (S10, S11). When the count of the total number of print dot counter 27D is higher than the 'reference value' after ending print operation, a thermal head 9 is cooled by dissipating heat after waiting a moment when the count of the total number of print dot counter 27D reaches the 'reference value' (S15: YES).
