PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aligning device which can easily align the core of an optical fiber with the core of an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: The aligning device A has a 1st stage 1 which freely move in directions X, Y, and Z and also freely rotate in the plane XY, a 1st holding part 13 which is provided on the 1st stage 1 and holds the optical fiber 4, a 2nd stage which freely moves in the directions X, Y, and Z and also freely rotates in the plane XY, a 2nd holding part 23 which is provided on the 2nd stage 2 and holds the optical waveguide 5, a polarizing microscope 3 which is provided freely movable along the 1st stage 1 and 2nd stage 2 arranged side by side, an imaging means 6 which picks up an image through this polarizing microscope 3, an image processing means 7 which processes the image picked up by the imaging means 6, and a movement control means 8 which relatively moves the 1st stage 1 and 2nd stage 2 according to image information obtained by the image processing means 7 so that the core of the optical fiber 4 and the core of the optical waveguide 5 are aligned with each other.
