PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional single-plane shear testing machine having a pressure chamber that since a compressive force is loaded to the upper surface of a soil sample by means of a compressive force loader, e.g. a weight or a Bellowphragm cylinder, displacement of height of the soil sample sustains for a significantly long term and thereby it is very difficult to control the height of the soil sample. SOLUTION: Height of a soil sample can be controlled freely by fixing a vertical displacement gauge to the piston guide case and providing a displacement controller and a vertical DC motor.
