PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively control the operation of a plurality of auxiliary heating means and improve the fuel consumption of the engine of a vehicle without exercising a bad effect on the temperature feeling of an occupant in using an air conditioner for a vehicle comprising the auxiliary heating means that is a combination of a hot gas heater cycle and an electric heater. SOLUTION: In steps S140 and S160, a heating load is measured based on the temperature of the fresh air. When the temperature of the fresh air is lower than a first prescribed value T1 and the heating load is large, the hot gas heater cycle and the electric heater are actuated simultaneously in a step S130. When the heating load decreases, the electric heater is stopped first, leaving the hot gas heater cycle operating alone in a step S150. Then, upon further decrease of the heating load, the hot gas heater cycle is also stopped in a step S170. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
