PURPOSE: A black layer removing apparatus is provided to prevent fine cracks from being created on a surface of a strip by brushing a surface of a casting roll in all directions for removing a black layer deposited in a dimple of a casting roll surface. CONSTITUTION: A black layer removing apparatus includes a first brush section(30) and a second brush section(40). The first brush section(30) includes a plurality of first brushes(31a,32a,33a,34a) adjacent to upper and lower peripheral portions of casting rolls(2,2a), and a plurality of brush rolls(31,32,33,34) aligned lengthwise the casting rolls(2,2a). The brush rolls(31,32,33,34) are rotated in different directions from each other so that inner upper and lower surfaces of a dimple formed on surfaces of the casting rolls(2,2a) are uniformly brushed. The second brush section(40) includes a plurality of second brushes(41a,42a,43a,44a) adjacent to outer peripheral portions of casting rolls(2,2a), and a plurality of cross brush rolls(41,42,43,44) aligned lengthwise the casting rolls(2,2a). The cross brush rolls(41,42,43,44) are rotated in different directions from each other between the brush rolls(31,32,33,34) so that inner sidewalls of the dimple formed on surfaces of the casting rolls(2,2a) are uniformly brushed.
