PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the number of rewritable time of a storage medium and to improve the characteristics in recording onto the medium and reproducing from the medium. SOLUTION: During a recording, a seed is selected first and a result being accumulated by exclusive OR for every bit, which is separated for a prescribed number of bits for the data that link the seed and data to be recorded, is recorded onto the storage medium. During a reproducing, the data being recorded in the above are reproduced first and the resultant value, in which exclusive ORs are taken for every bit that are separated for a prescribed number of bits for the reproduced data, is the original data prior to the recording.
