PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the absorbing capacity and to improve the cleaning ability of a mop without increasing the volume or the weight of the mop. SOLUTION: A base cloth 1 is provided with a multitude of strip-shaped cleaning strips 2 made of fabric, that are in contact with the subject surface such as the floor surface. Each of the cleaning strips 2 has a certain degree of rigidity so that it self-maintains its straightness at least in the width direction. The tip 2a of each of the strip-shaped cleaning strips 2 is angled in, for example, an isosceles triangle form and is sharp at the end. The method for manufacturing the mop is that by cutting the cloth made of a synthetic resin fiber by ultrasonic wave an intermediate material for the mop, that has a main part and a multitude of strip-shaped cleaning strips 2 that extended from the main part and the cut-out side is burnt and closed, is produced and a multiple number of the intermediate materials for the mop is sewn on the base cloth 1.
