PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a specified scene extracting apparatus capable of properly and simply extracting a specified scene desired in a huge amount of video data. SOLUTION: The specified scene extracting apparatus includes: a motion vector calculation circuit for calculating a motion vector; a scene dividing circuit for dividing a video image at an interval between points of time when the motion vector rapidly changes; a motion vector merging circuit for obtaining a temporal change waveform of the motion vector; a search key generating circuit for generating a second merged motion vector waveform indicating a scene desired to be extracted in response to the entry of a search key; a video storage device for storing a video output in the unit of scenes; and a comparison circuit for comparing the first merged motion vector waveform obtained by the motion vector merging circuit with the second merged motion vector waveform produced by the search key generating circuit to provide an output of a coincident scene, and the specified scene extracting apparatus is configured such that the video storage device outputs the video image in response to the scene outputted from the comparison circuit.
