PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recorder in which cutting can be carried out freely at an arbitrary place without canceling a print job and a cut job even during print operation. SOLUTION: A printer comprises an auto-cutter for shearing a roll sheet PR by means of a plate member 44 and a rotary cutter 46. A print job for producing printed matters P<SB>0</SB>, P<SB>1</SB>and P<SB>2</SB>continuously, and a cut job for cutting them at cutting positions C<SB>1</SB>, C<SB>2</SB>and C<SB>3</SB>are designated from the host side. On the other hand, the printer is provided with a manual cut switch and the print job is stopped temporarily when that switch is depressed once. When that switch is depressed again following to inching of the roll sheet PR, the auto-cutter operates independently to perform cutting at an arbitrary position between the cutting positions C<SB>1</SB>, C<SB>2</SB>and C<SB>3</SB>.
