PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately detect the residual quantity of a paper sheet while reducing the number of parts, and to use the same mechanism for the detection of the residual quantity of paper sheet and determination on whether a paper feeding cassette is mounted. SOLUTION: A residual quantity detecting member 206 interlocked with a rotating shaft 205 of a lifting means 401 for lifting a bottom plate 201 provided in a paper feeding cassette to stack the paper sheets, is provided with an outer peripheral projecting face 503 and a cutout part 504 passing through a detecting region of a sensor, and the position change of the outer peripheral projecting face and cutout part 504 is detected by the sensor to determine the residual quantity of paper sheet in terms of software based on sensor output at the stop of the bottom plate 201.
