PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a public key certificate searching apparatus which can surely search a public key certificate in various collation rule environments to be utilized for PKI (public key infrastructure). SOLUTION: When the name of an owner of the public key certificate is reported from a job system 3 in the case of searching the public key certificate, a directory 1 extracts collation rule information presenting collation rules used for registering a public key in an authentication station and converting the name of the owner of the public key certificate to a search label from a collation rule information management table 12. Then, a string is converted to a search key by a conversion method in accordance with the collation rule information.
