PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To alternately record when data are recorded in the alternate recording so that the access to the alternation original and the alternation destination does not frequently occur when data are reproduced, and to suppress the amount of using an alternate area. SOLUTION: When a data recording request from a host computer 11 is received, data are recorded in a recording area of an optical disk 12. When it is judged that a defective sector exists in the recording area of the recording destination in step 1, and when it is judged that the defective sector exists so as to sandwich a non-defective sector in step 2, the size of the non-defective sector is checked in step 3. When it is judged that the size of the non-defective sector is equal to or less than a prescribed amount (X) in step 4, the data recording process goes to step 5, and ends by executing the alternate recording process for alternately recording in the alternate area the data to be recorded in the defective sector and the non-defective sector, respectively.
