PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform a finish-working to a matching face with a cylinder head regarding a cylinder block forming a cylinder bore part by impregnating molten metal as a base material into a porous preform. SOLUTION: In a method for producing the cylinder block with which after setting the porous preform E having higher hardness than that of the base material of the cylinder block to a portion corresponding to the cylinder bore part in a casting mold, the molten metal is poured into a casting cavity and impregnated into the preform so as to form the cylinder bore part, the preform is set so that the end part E<SB>t</SB>at the near side to the matching face of the cylinder block with the cylinder head is apart from the casting face by a prescribed distance.
