PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate bending press in which eccentric load resistance performance is improved. SOLUTION: The plate bending press comprises a ram device 30 installed on a carriage 10 horizontally moving on the crown 3 of a gate type press frame and descending an upper die at an arbitrary position. The ram device 30 consists of a cylinder 31 and a ram 35. In the cylinder 31, a sliding hole 32 is formed in a bottom wall defining a cylinder chamber. The ram consists of a large- diameter ram 36 sliding in the cylinder chamber 31 and a small-diameter ram 37 connected to the large-diameter ram 36 at its upper end and sliding in the sliding hole 32. The carriage 10 in which an upper die-installing base 38 is installed on the large-diameter ram 36 at its lower end comprises a lock cylinder 13 constraining the horizontal movement of the carriage 10 to out of action by pressing a rod 13a against the crown 3 at its upper section.
