PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treating apparatus in which a sensor for detecting that a recovering vessel is filled with waste matter can be prevented from working erroneously or lowering the function. SOLUTION: The waste matter discharged from a garbage treating tank is accumulated in the recovering vessel 41 through an overflow port 10. Outdoor air sucking ports 42, 43 are formed in the upper parts of the opposite side faces of the vessel 41. The constituent elements of the sensor 30 for detecting that the vessel 41 is filled with the waste matter are fit to the outsides near the ports 42, 43, respectively. Since an airflow flowing from the outside to the inside is formed in the vicinity of each of the ports 42, 43, the condensed water of the steam generated in the garbage treating tank and the vessel 41 is never stuck to the constituent elements of the sensor 30.
