PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system for an elevator car capable of mounting and removing its illumination cover from inside of the car irrespective of the sort of the lighting system installed inside the car. SOLUTION: The lighting system for the elevator car is equipped with the photo-transmitting illumination cover 14 covering an opening 5 formed in the ceiling plate 3 in the elevator car and a lid 7 covering the over-part of the cover 14 and furnished internally with an illumination light 9 and arranged so that the peripheral edge of the cover 14 is placed on the end face of the opening 5, and the lid 7 is attached to a fixing member 6 installed on the oversurface of the ceiling plate 3 through fasteners 8, 10, 13, wherein the arrangement further includes a bracket 12 attached to the fasteners 10 and 13 installed inside the lid 7 and positioned in the neighborhood of the end face of the opening 5 and a protruding piece 15 installed on the bracket 12 and positioned below the opening 5, and the photo-transmitting illumination cover 14 covers at least one of the openings 5 and is furnished with an engaging piece 16 to be engaged with the protruding piece 15.
