PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting a cutting tool in a lathe machine which excellently adjusts the height of the cutting edge of the cutting tool. SOLUTION: According to the method, a reference point forming tool for forming a reference point as a reference for use in comparing the mounting height of the cutting tool 10 is mounted on a main shaft rotating portion 1. While the rotating portion 1 is rotated, a moving table is moved frontward, and a cutting tool holder 12 which moves together with the moving table 11 in one body abuts on the reference point forming tool which then calibrates a marking on the cutting tool holder 12, to thereby form a hole in the cutting tool holder as the reference point. Then, images of the hole and the cutting edge of the cutting tool 10 are taken by a CCD camera 7 attached to the main shaft rotating portion 1, and the height of the hole is compared with the height of the cutting edge of the cutting tool 10 based on the respective taken images. In this manner, the height of the cutting edge of the cutting tool 10 can be adjusted while the cutting tool holder 12 is kept mounted on the moving table 11. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
