PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and program for controlling an image reader by which the user interfaces of different kinds of image readers can easily be unified. SOLUTION: The method is provided with: interface modules 23 and 24 for displaying an input screen for inputting the reading condition of an image; hardware control modules 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31 characteristic to a machine kind which generates the control command of the image reader according to the reading condition; and a manager module 25 for calling the hardware control module of the image reader designated by an application program 21.
