Process for removing components from solutions and colloidal aqueous solutions comprises passing the solution to be purified through a deep filter to remove suspended matter and colloidal compounds. The filter has a charge which corresponds to the charge of the components to be removed. Preferred Features: The filter is negatively charged. The filter consists of a bed consisting of charged particles. The particles are gel-like, preferably a cation exchanger. The filter can be back-flushed with water or an aqueous solution to regenerate it.
