PURPOSE: A method is provided to allow the battery charge state to be easily maintained at a predetermined level, while achieving improved fuel efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a step(110) of setting the lower limit and upper limit of state of charge of battery of hybrid electric vehicle; a step(120) of setting the coefficient determined by the minimum value and maximum value with respect to the fuel consumption of brake of hybrid electric vehicle engine in accordance with a charge or discharge operation; a step(130) of setting a slope in accordance with a pre-defined control algorithm; a step(140) of judging whether the electrical system of the hybrid electric vehicle is charged; and a step(150) of obtaining a function formula of fuel consumption of brake of hybrid electric vehicle engine with respect to the state of charge if the electrical system is charged.
