<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose an oil component (including an oil component in scum) in sewage and wastewater to remove the same and to prevent the occurrence of a malodor or scum owing to the oil component. <P>SOLUTION: In a method for removing the oil component existing in sewage or wastewater, a powder or the like containing microorganisms having a capacity for decomposing the oil component to remove the same is sprinkled over sewage or wastewater or a solution thereof is sprayed on sewage or wastewater to decompose and remove oil component.
