METHOD FOR SELECTING SUITABLE BITSTREAM CONSTRAINT FOR HYPOTHETICAL REFERENCE DECODER MODEL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide resources required for decoding a bitstream such that a video decoder's input buffer does not overflow or underflow.

SOLUTION: A multiple leaky buckets HRD model allows a calculation of a suitable leaky bucket from a set of leaky buckets based on a peak transmission rate. This model may work when the peak transmission rate can be known to the video decoder. A method for defining a way to select suitable bitstream constraints from a set of leaky bucket is provided for the case where the peak transmission rate cannot be determined. The method ensures certain default values to be used for the bitstream constraints so that the decoder can correctly decode the bitstream.
