PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize image separation by software, and further, to realize high-speed processing.

SOLUTION: An image area separating device for separating a character portion and a pattern portion of an image is provided with an SIMD (single instruction-stream multiple data-stream) type processor, and a table converter 81 performing table conversion using data of a register 53 of a register file 43 of the SIMD type processor as an address. In performing image area separating processing, the SIMD type processor performs SIMD processing, and the converter 81 performs serial processing for obtained intermediate data in table conversion.
