POLARIZATION ROTOR, PARALLAX BARRIER, DISPLAY, AND OPTICAL MODULATOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rotate a polarization surface of a linearly polarized light by a desired angle by using a polarization rotor having 90° twist angle.

SOLUTION: The polarization rotor for rotating a polarization direction of linearly polarized light by a desired angle except 90° is provided. The rotor comprises a liquid crystal material layer (6) disposed between alignment surfaces. In one mode, a 90° twist is generated at a liquid crystal director. A formula for relating the retardation of the layer (6) to polarization rotation volume and the angle between the polarization direction of incident light and an alignment direction (11) in the input surface of the liquid crystal layer (6) is provided.
