PURPOSE: A method for controlling a brightness level of an LCD on a notebook computer is provided to control the brightness level of the LCD independently and variably depending on use power. CONSTITUTION: If a user inputs an up/down key for controlling the brightness level, it is checked that the power used by a power supply is the AC adaptor power or the battery power(S11). After selecting one from the brightness level information corresponding to the type of the checked supply power, the index information linked with the brightness level information is read. Referring to the read index information, the brightness level is variably controlled and the index information is stored in a nonvolatile memory by classifying the index information into each supply power type(S14).
