POLARIZATION HOLDING OPTICAL FIBER AND METHOD FOR REGULATING AXIS OF POLARIZATION HOLDING OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization holding optical fiber for arranging a polarization direction by observing the polarization direction from a side direction of an optical fiber without removing a protection covering of the optical fiber, and to provide a method for regulating its axis. SOLUTION: The polarization holding optical fiber covering a glass fiber with the protection covering 15 has a core part 12 with a high refractive index in the center, and a stress imparting part 13 having birefringence and a clad part 14 on the outside. A rotation position of the stress imparting part 13 can be discriminated due to a brightness distribution of transmitted light of light emitted from the side direction of the protection covering 15 by making light transmittance and thickness of the protection covering 15, and boron concentration of the stress imparting part suitable.
