The control includes a mobile switch (3,3a,3b) which may be moved in rotation about its axis (Z), and by translation in the plane normal to the axis. The function to be controlled by the switch is selected by use of sensitive buttons (5) on the top surface of the switch. The control for at least two functions includes a mobile switching element (3,3a,3b) which has a tactile zone (5). A first function is activated by selecting one of the regions (5) of the tactile zone, and the whole mobile element is then moved to effect control of this selected function. By selection of another of the regions (5) of the tactile zone, a different function may be controlled. The whole element may be moved in rotation about its axis (Z), and by translation in the plane normal to the axis. The tactile zone may use resistive, capacitive or optical controls to detect which function has been selected. The tactile zone regions (5) may protrude from the surface to enable them to be sensed and selected easily by the operator.
