摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Huffman decoder which performs a decoding process at a high speed without increasing the circuit scale. <P>SOLUTION: The Huffman decoder comprises a predictor for heading data in Huffman codes. The predictor holds candidates of following heading data of Huffman codes from additional bits of preceding coded data outputted from a shift unit during accessing a memory and heading data of Huffman codes in the following coded data. When RS values are read out of the memory, the bit length of the additional bits in the preceding coded data is determined to generate coefficients of decoded data, while the predictor outputs a candidate corresponding to the bit length of the additional bits determined, based on the S-value read out of the memory, as the next heading data of the Huffman codes, and its code length is detected, thus increasing the speed of the decoding process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p>
