A process for preparing an intermediate compound of formula (II) where n is an integer of from 3 to 14; R1 is haloC1-10alkyl, C1-10alkyl, C2-10alkenyl, C2-10cycloalkyl, carboxyC1-10alkyl, C1-10alkoxycarbonylC1-10alkyl, aryl (such as phenyl), aryl(C1-10)alkyl (such as phenyl(C1-10)alkyl) or di(C1-6alkyl)amino; and R2 is a halo group; the process comprising halogenation of a compound of formula (III) where n and R1 are as defined above. The compounds of formulae (IIIA, IIIB, IV) and derivatives are also claimed.
