PURPOSE: A linear illumination apparatus is provided which is realized using a compact waveguide plate with low cost and with a small number of processes to improve reliability. CONSTITUTION: According to the linear illumination apparatus, a waveguide plate(1) has a part whose cross section vertical to a length direction of the waveguide plate is in an arc shape. A light diffusion unit is formed on the part of the waveguide plate having the arc shape. A light emission unit formed in a part of the waveguide facing the light diffusion unit. A light source unit(4) is arranged in the first cross section of the waveguide plate. And a light reflection layer(6) is embedded in the second cross section of the waveguide plate.
