The actuator (301) has a polarized electromagnet (300) and a mobile magnet plate (302) subjected to a mechanical action. A control unit controls a magnetic field generated by the polarized electromagnet so that, when the plate approaches the electromagnet, the magnetic field exerts a magnetic action on the plate to compensate the mechanical action so as to maintain the plate at a distance from the electromagnet. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine equipped with an electromagnetic actuator for the valve.
