PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which realizes simplification of image data decryption with an image receiver when the image reader transmits the image data to the image receiver with a specific area encrypted and to provide the image reader and a network system. SOLUTION: When a user sets an encryption area of original data, a network scanner 1 creates encryption target data where an area other than an encryption area is achromatized from the original data and non-encryption target data with the encryption area is achromatized from the original data, encrypts the encryption target data by an encryption processing part 3 and subsequently transmits the encryption data and the non-encryption target data to a host PC 11 via a network 10.
