PURPOSE: A planetary gear apparatus of an automatic transmission is provided to improve the durability of a pinion gear, a needle roller and a pinion shaft by actively rotating the pinion gear to the pinion shaft with the needle roller. CONSTITUTION: A planetary gear apparatus of an automatic transmission comprises a sun gear integrally rotating with an input shaft receiving driving force of an engine; pinion gears(54) engaged with the outer periphery of the sun gear; pinion shafts(56) rotating and supporting the pinion gears; a carrier rotating the pinion shafts around the sun gear; and a ring gear engaged with the outer periphery of the pinion gear to output driving force of the engine in finishing shifting. Plural needle rollers(60) are inserted between the pinion gear and the pinion shaft, and arranged in parallel to the axis of the pinion gear by partially inserting the needle rollers to retainer grooves(55).
