The device has an absolute coding system (4) for coding the angular position of a rotating unit that is to be mounted on a rotor (2) of an electrical motor (1) e.g. brushless motor. A signal processing circuit (5) receives a signal from the coding system, and delivers a signal pulse to a piloting system (7) of the motor when the rotor reaches the corresponding angular position of commutation. An independent claim is also included for the method for initializing the signal processing circuit for commutation of a brushless motor.
