MIXTURE OF CYCLIC LACTIC ACID OLIGOMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mixture having a composition permitting efficient isolation of a cyclic lactic acid oligomer having a desired condensation degree.

SOLUTION: A terminal carboxyl group in a linear m-mer oligomer (wherein m is an integer of 3-15) of lactic acid as the starting substance is caused to react with a compound: O=R (wherein R is a cyclic or linear organic group) or a compound: R'SSR" (wherein R' and R" are each a cyclic or linear organic group); subsequently, n oligomers are cyclized. The product obtained by the method is a mixture of cyclic (m×n)-mer oligomers of lactic acid (namely oligomers having m×n units of lactic acid). The condensation degree of the produced cyclic lactic acid oligomer is specified by the condensation degree m of the linear m-mer oligomer of lactic acid and is n times the m-mer.
