The specification discloses an edge strip protector (14) for an electrode plate (11) used for electrolysis typically when refining metals, the edge strip protector (14) being at least partially formed from a substantially rigid insulating material with a longitudinally extending groove (17) for receiving an edge zone (23) of the electrode plate 11, the edge strip protector (14) being secured to the electrode plate edge zone (23) by at least one engagement formation (19, 20, 34) located within the groove (17) and having an undercut zone engagable with a complementary region of a respective recessed zone (21) in the edge zone (23) and/or a notched zone (22) in a corner of the electrode plate (11), and a fastener means (27) being received in a fastener receiving aperture (36, 37) in the edge protector strip (14) and the electrode plate, the interengagement of the engagement formations (19, 20, 34) with the recessed or notched zones (31, 22) being such that both movement of the protector (14) in one longitudinal direction of the edge zone (23) and movement of the protector (14) laterally away from the edge zone (23), is prevented. |
