<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow use in the time of a power failure or even in a place wherein a commercial power source is unavailable, and to reduce a charging time of a battery of a portable terminal device. <P>SOLUTION: A communication unit 2 does not have a battery, and power from an external power source such as the commercial power source is not supplied to the communication unit 2. When a handy terminal 1 is placed on the communication unit 2, terminals 15, 15 of the handy terminal 1 and terminals 4, 4 of the communication unit 2 come into contact to be electrically connected, and power is supplied to a power supply circuit 18 of the communication unit 2 from the battery 13 of the handy terminal 1 via the terminals 15, 15 and the terminals 4, 4.
