n inexpensive and high throuput method is described for the purification of olive mill waste waters (OMWW), in view (1) of their direct use for agricultural purposes, and (2) the isolation of high addes value substances. Turf, sawdust and sand are combined to give a first filter, in which the effluent is used directly or after dilytion with water, for agricultural purposes. A second procedure is also described in which the effluent of the first stage filter is further filtered through two resin filters (cationic, mixed-bed of PVPP). Tge final effluent of this later procedure can also be used for agricultural purposes, while, through resin elution with organic solvents, high added value products are isolated (antioxidant biophenols). The eluted resins can be reused. |
