<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent problems such as breakage, jam, backflow, or the like of paper by controlling timing of switchback based on the conveyance time of actual paper. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming device 1 is equipped with a switchback member 70. Here, when double-side printing is performed, the paper P is switched back to change the conveying direction. A first paper detecting means 80 for detecting the existence of the paper P and a second paper detecting means 90 are disposed at different places on a paper conveyance passage 21. Based on a duration set from the actual conveyance time of the paper P passing between these paper detection means, the time since the paper P arrives at the switchback member 70 until the conveying direction is changed and the paper P is fed out again is controlled by a control means 100.
