FIELD: railway transport; maintenance of permanent way. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to tamping tool of tie tampers used to consolidate ballast under tie laying and repairing railway tracks. Proposed tamping tool has plate secured on lower end of rod. Rod is cross-section has form of rhombus one of diagonals of which is square to and other is parallel to plate, and sides of which are conjugated over change-over lines. Said lines are straight lines square to diagonals of rhombus, or part of circumference. Ratio of lengths of diagonals of rhombus is 1-9. ^ EFFECT: increased strength, improved reliability, reduced mass of rod and tamping tool as a whole. ^ 4 cl, 3 dwg
