PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording write head capable of reducing occurrence of adjacent track erasure as much as possible. SOLUTION: This head is provided with a main write shield layer 120 of a wide width arranged at a trailing side of its main magnetic pole layer 70 with the main magnetic pole layer 70, and a sub-write shield layer 90 of narrow width arranged between the main magnetic pole layer 70 and the mein write shield layer 120, separated from the main magnetic pole layer 70 through a gap layer 80, and coupled magnetically to the main write shield layer 120. Since magnetic field pitch of a recording magnetic field is increased based on a magnetic fluxes take-in function of the sub-write shield layer 90, that is, the recording magnetic field is concentrated to a track to be recorded, influence of the recording magnetic field is hard to cross the track to be recorded and reach to an adjacent track.
