Audience measurement system and method for digital broadcasts

Apparatus and methods for measuring the audience of digital television or radio programs are disclosed. A digital decoder receives digital data for program broadcasts, where the data includes program information for a number of viewable channels accessible to a viewer. The decoder includes a digital data output port through which a signal with a defined frequency corresponding to the program information for the program being viewed is output. The corresponding frequency is determined by accessing a look-up table.
